This June, the University of Toronto hosts a series of major track and field events to celebrate its support for the “playground-to-podium” model of athlete development.

The playground-to-podium concept reflects the spectrum of athletic pursuits, from elementary and high school sport to high performance competition at regional, national and international levels.

Three key track events slated for June 2009 at U of T’s Varsity Centre reflect this continuum:  the OFSAA high school finals (June 4-6); the Festival of Excellence featuring three-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt (June 11); and the Canadian Track and Field Championships and World Selection Trials (June 25-28).  Not since the 1960s, when national and international records were broken on its track, has Varsity Stadium seen such significant action.

U of T’s Varsity Centre, which encompasses Varsity Stadium, Varsity Arena and the proposed Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport, provides the very best resources for training and competition, and creates huge benefits for athletes, coaches and sport scientists.

Join us in June as we usher in a new era of high performance sport and athlete development at the University of Toronto!
