Johnny Fitzpatrick was a key member of the Football Blues for 4 seasons (1929-32), including the 1932 Yates Cup champions. Prior to entering university, he had played on the Hamilton Tigers' Grey Cup champions in 1928. In Intercollegiate Track, he was a leading member of championship teams in 1927-28 and 1929-30, and in 3 years of intramural Track, he won 10 medals, including 7 Gold.
Fitzpatrick was a member of Canada's 1928 Olympic team and competed in the 100m and 200m races plus the 4x100m relay. In 1930, he won Canada's first medal at inaugural British Empire Games in Hamilton. He served on the UofT Men's Athletic Directorate in 1932-33. During his illustrious engineering career, he designed the "Fitzpatrick Dome" to protect highway equipment from inclement weather and also developed a unique bubble machine to keep harbours from freezing.
