The University of Toronto Varsity Blues rowing team put forth a strong effort at the Brock Invitational in St. Catharines, Ont. this past Friday, October 9th.
The Blues competed hard and in the end came out of the finals with two silver and a bronze medal amongst some other notable finishes.
Michael Braithwaite (Duncan, B.C.) again led the Toronto charge, finishing second in the men’s heavyweight singles. He completed the race in a time of 7:13.1 just behind Queen’s Morgan Jarvis, a senior A world championship bronze medalist.
In another close race, the women’s lightweight boat also claimed a silver medal, completing the course in 7:23.1.
Next up for the Blues was the women’s heavyweight coxed four who earned a bronze medal in the A final. The Varsity’s boat rowed to a third-place finish in a time of 7:20.5.
Notably, the Blues women’s heavyweight doubles team of Alanna Komisar (Calgary, Alta.) and Jen Sauks (Owen Sound, Ont.), both of whom are lightweights, as well as the men’s heavyweight doubles team of Braithwaite and Jeff Chadwick (Hamilton, Ont.) finished fourth in their respective races. Komisar was again out of her natural weight category, finishing fourth with a gutsy performance in the women’s heavyweight singles.
