University of Toronto Varsity Blues fastpitch all-star, Karlene Headley-Cooper, earned a silver medal at the 2009 European softball championships, July 27-August 1, in Valencia, Spain.

Competing for Great Britain, Headley-Cooper led all batters in the tournament with 11 RBIs, including a grand slam in a 15-0 victory over Slovakia. Her squad went 6-3 in round-robin play before falling 4-0 to the Netherlands in the final.

This is Great Britain’s highest finish at this tournament. With that, the team has earned their first berth to the 2010 ISF world championships in Oklahoma City next July.
