The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are pleased to announce that they will now be streaming live webcasts of intercollegiate home games with The Streaming Sports Network (SSN) for the remainder of the 2009-2010 season.

“We are very excited to have partnered with SSN”, said Liz Hoffman, U of T’s director of athletics. “Being able to webcast our Varsity Blues games means that alumni and parents can keep up with the teams and that potential recruits have the opportunity to see our successful intercollegiate programs from a distance. It’s an amazing tool and I’m thrilled that we are able to offer it to our supporters.”

The first successful live webcast was this past Friday, Sept. 18, when the Blues football team hosted the University of Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Centre. The game can be viewed in its entirety at http://www.ssncanada.ca/game/545/.

SSN will carry the final two home football games; Friday, Sept. 25 against the Ottawa Gee-Gees at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 17 versus the Waterloo Warriors at 1 p.m.

Also confirmed is the Varsity Blues women’s hockey team’s exhibition game on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when Toronto hosts Team China, http://www.varsityblues.ca/news/2009/9/16/WHOCKEY_0916094555.aspx, at Varsity Arena.

SSNCanada is a wholly owned Canadian entity with a mandate to promote expanded access to Canadian amateur athletics, primarily from university sports, http://www.ssncanada.ca/.

"SSN Canada is very pleased to add the University of Toronto for the 2009-2010 season,” said Bengt Neathery, president of SSN. “Our objective for providing access to the best of university sports broadcasting has been brought up a level by the inclusion of U of T, and we believe this relationship further enhances our position in growing the exposure of our brand and Canadian athletics as a whole. Our experience in broadcasting from the University of Toronto before this signing has been top notch. Their commitment to equipment and resources for their broadcasting should prove exciting for all fans in upcoming season.”

A secondary partnership has also been formed with the College of Sports Media (CSM), http://www.collegeofsportsmedia.com/index.html.

Under the direction of president David Lanys, who has integrated this practical work experience into his school’s curriculum, second-year students have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the areas of camera work, reporting, play-by-play and colour analyst for the various Blues webcasts.
