The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s curling team qualified for the OUA finals as they went 4-1 at the OUA crossover this weekend (Feb. 6-7) in Peterborough, Ont.
The Blues started the weekend with two big wins over the Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors.
Toronto then ran into the hot streaking Western Mustangs team who eventually went undefeated on the weekend. However, the U of T men rebounded with another huge win over the Windsor Lancers.
Going into the last game versus the Brock Badgers, the Blues knew that a win would secure a spot at the OUA championships and a loss would likely put them in a four-way tiebreaker situation.
The final game versus Brock was extremely close as Toronto trailed by one point going into the final end. The Blue and White pulled it off in fine form after two amazing shots by vice Bill Francis (Toronto) and skip Pat Janssen (Scarborough, Ont.) on his final rock to win the game outright.
The Varsity Blues head to the 2010 OUA championships next weekend (Feb. 13-14) at the KW Granite Curling Club hosted by the University of Waterloo Warriors.
