The Varsity Blues mountain bike team placed third in the 2009 University Cup (U-Cup) series. Despite what some may have called a re-building year, many Blues racers made their way to the podium at the four U-Cup races.

Team Captain Chris Wedeles represented the Blues well and turned in great times in the men’s A division. Graduating student and team MVP Bret Waghorne was also outstanding in the men’s A division, clocking numerous top ten finishes.

Jason Zhu, who won the Spirit of Sport award, and Chris McKnight also did well and have high expectations for next season.

David Biancolin picked up two bronze medals and Thomas Soltysiok also performed well in the men’s B division.

In women’s action, team MVP Samantha Cassista won two silver and a bronze in the series, while Sarah Figley and Meaghann McConney improved their technical skills and are also looking forward to U-Cup 2010.
