Toronto's Joanna Medri shot 50% from the floor, including 3-6 from beyond the arc to lead the Varsity Blues to a one-point victory, 68-67, over the University of Victoria Vikes in their final game of the University of Calgary's Ranger Inspection Holiday Hoops tournament on Friday afternoon in the Jack Simpson Gym.
Medri's 20 points led all players; she also had six rebounds and three steals. Jill Stratton knocked down 13 points, had five assists and hauled in six boards of her own. The Blues bench was another contributing factor in this win, outscoring the Vikes' reserves 22-11 in the tournament finale.
Toronto was 2-1 over the three-day event, losing the opening game 73-65 to the hosts, and eventual champions, Calgary Dinos before winning two straight over their OUA counterpart RMC Paladins and U of Vic.
Game 2:
Five players hit double digits as the No. 10 Toronto Varsity Blues women’s basketball team handily defeated the RMC Paladins 93-35 on Day 2 of the 2011 Ranger Inspection Holiday Hoops tournament at Jack Simpson Gym.
The Blues controlled the game from the start and held a dominant 47-23 advantage at halftime. With all 13 players seeing action, U of T held RMC to single digits in the third and fourth quarters to come away with the lopsided victory.
Second-year forward Julie Longauer of Whitby, Ont., led all players with 15 points, while Rachel Sider (New Westminster, B.C.) had 10 and Etobicoke, Ont., native Jill Stratton tallied 11. Both Liane Bailey and Kristy Chute notched 10 points in the win.
The Blues wrap up the three-day tournament versus the Victoria Vikes tomorrow at 1 p.m. EST.
Game 1:

Sophomore guard Jill Stratton of Etobicoke, Ont., tallied a team-high 16 points, while veteran guards Sherri Pierce (Brampton, Ont.) and Joanna Medri (Toronto) had nine and 10 points, respectively.
Calgary was led by Alex Cole's game-high 23-point performance on the day.
