BLUES SWIMMING SIGNS ONE OF ONTARIO’S BEST

The Varsity Blues women’s swimming program is pleased to announce that Bridget Coley has made known her intent to swim and pursue her education at the University of Toronto in the fall of 2011.

"Bridget is a tremendous talent that has already swum for Canada once,” said Varsity Blues head coach Byron MacDonald. “She will definitely be aiming to do so several more times during her career here at U of T.

"Even though Bridget specializes in distance freestyle, she is so tough that she can swim just about anything," added assistant coach Linda Kiefer.

A provincial champion, Coley was picked by Swim Ontario to receive a special $5000 grant that is given to the top two high school graduating swimmers.

Coley of Hamilton, Ont., will join an already impressive group of distance swimmers as the Blues build a strong women’s team to challenge for the OUA title and move up the national ladder in 2011-12.

"The other part about Bridget that is so great, is that she is a top scholar as well,” commented MacDonald. “We like smart swimmers here at U of T.”

Coley will be receiving an athletic scholarship from U of T.

Students who sign a letter of intent and commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
