The University of Toronto Varsity Blues soccer program and its head coach Anthony Capotosto host the 2012 national soccer coaching conference, February 4-5, at Varsity Centre.
Capotosto is bringing together internationally acclaimed clinicians and guest speakers to put on one of the largest conferences that Canada has ever seen.
“The goal of this conference is to provide education to coaches at all levels in the game of soccer,” commented Capotosto. “It is through this kind of professional development that we will be able to better serve the players with whom we work and ultimately raise the standard of play in Canada.”
The two-day event will see seven on-field sessions with highly praised coaches such as Canadian men’s national team head coach Stephen Hart, United States Soccer Federation staff coach Bob Gansler, former Toronto FC Academy Director Stuart Neely, Toronto FC Academy head goalkeeper coach Paolo Ceccarelli and former Toronto FC head coach Nick Dasovic.
TSN and CBC soccer analyst and commentator Jason De Vos will also be on hand during the coaching symposium, which will touch on development of Canadian players.
The University of Toronto’s state-of-the-art Varsity Centre will be used for all on-field sessions. Players used for those sessions will include members of the Varsity Blues men’s soccer team as well as the Toronto FC Academy.
“We currently have over 230 coaches attending from all across the country,” added Capotosto. “We are all looking forward to a great weekend of coaching education at the University of Toronto and learning from some of the top soccer coaches in North America."
