Varsity Blues head coach Darren Lowe and leading scorer Byron Elliott were honoured as Ontario University Athletics announced the 2011-2012 OUA men’s hockey East division all-stars and major award winners on Monday afternoon.
Lowe was recognized as the East coach of the year after guiding the Blues to a 16-9-3 record and fourth-place finish this season. The former NHLer earns his third coach of the year honour (2011-12, 2002-03, 2000-01) in the past 15 seasons with the University of Toronto.
Fourth-year forward Byron Elliott of Burlington, Ont., picked up his second career OUA all-star nod on the second team. Elliott has led the Blues in scoring for the past four years and tallied a team-high 19 goals and 16 assists in 28 regular season games this season.
