THREE BLUES BODE WELL AT CANADIAN JUNIOR NATIONALS

Varsity Blues badminton players Andrew Wilkinson, Bethany So and Jody Chan competed at the 2012 under-19 Canadian junior national badminton championships this past week in Moncton, N.B.

The 2012 OUA male rookie of the year, Wilkinson competed in both men’s and mixed doubles. Paired with Andrew Lau, the duo fell to No. 2 seeded Benny Lin and Duncan Yao inn the semifinals to finish among the top four out of 35 men’s doubles pairs. Wilkinson then paired up with Chan and, although unseeded, reached the semi-final round again out of 58 teams.

Bethany So, the 2012 OUA female rookie and player of the year, placed fifth in women’s singles action after reaching the quarter-finals in a field of 38 players.  She lost to eventual champion Christin Tsai 5-21, 11-21.

So and Chan also reached the quarter-finals in the women’s doubles competition, falling to No. 1 seeds Takeisha Wang and Josepine Wu 21-9, 21-19.
