BLUES ROWING BODES WELL AT HEAD OF THE TRENT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's rowing teams travelled to Peterborough, Ont., for the 2014 Head of the Trent on Saturday, October 4.
 
Christina Malinas led the way for the women with a third-place finish in the lightweight single, while the lightweight eights of Malinas, Heather Noble, Rebekah Sibbald, Oksana Wankiewicz, Agnes Soos, Emily Donaldson, Eunji Lee and Jessie MacAlpine also earned a third-place finish.
 
The U of T women's heavyweight eight boat of Julie Winterburn, Roxanna Dehghan, Lauren Richardson, Camille Ligier, Stephanie Calhoun, Jacqueline Williams, Lindsay Tetreault and Hannah Musgrove placed fourth, with Williams, Tetreault, Ligier and Claire Hutchison also placing fifth in the heavyweight coxed four.
 
Wankiewicz and Noble finished fourth in the lightweight double, while Williams and Tetreault paired up to place fifth out of 12 boats in the heavyweight double.
 
In men's action, Jacob Giesbrecht and Andrei Vovk led the team with a third-place finish in the lightweight double, with Giesbrecht also earning a sixth-place finish in the lightweight single.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 11 as they head to St. Catharines, Ont., for the Brock Invitational.
