The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team claimed their third consecutive provincial banner in defeating the host McMaster Marauders 11-6 in the OUA championship final on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 29) in Hamilton, Ont.
Toronto successfully defends their title and wins their fifth title in the past eight years. The Blues complete a perfect season, going 9-0 versus OUA competition in exhibition play and earning a spot in the final with an 11-4 semi-final win over Carleton yesterday. It marks the third consecutive season that Toronto has gone undefeated versus Ontario competition.
Alexandra Kraft scored two goals in the first quarter to give Toronto a narrow 3-1 lead after the first quarter. The Blues exploded for four goals in the second quarter and held a 7-2 advantage at halftime.
McMaster rallied and outscored Toronto 3-2 in the third quarter to bring the game within four (9-5) heading into the final frame, but the Blues stood tall to earn their third straight title.
The duo of Ana Miroslavic and Alexandra Kraft had three goals apiece to lead the Blues, while Emily Bidinosti and Megan MacCormac each chipped in two to round out a balanced offensive outing.
